Here is a list of the top 10 largest stock exchanges. Those futures exchanges that also offer trading in securities besides trading in futures contracts are listed both here and in the list of futures exchanges.

1️⃣ New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)

Market capitalization : $ 22.92 Trillion

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is an American stock exchange at 11 Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City.

It is by far the world’s largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies at US$30.1 trillion as of February 2018. The average daily trading value was approximately US$169 billion in 2013.

The NYSE trading floor is at 11 Wall Street and is composed of 21 rooms used for the facilitation of trading. An additional trading room, at 30 Broad Street, was closed in February 2007. The main building and the 11 Wall Street building were designated National Historic Landmarks in 1978.

Market capitalization : $ 10.86 Trillion

The Nasdaq Stock Market also known as Nasdaq or NASDAQ, is an American stock exchange at One Liberty Plaza in New York City.

It is ranked second on the list of stock exchanges by market capitalization of shares traded, behind the New York Stock Exchange.

The exchange platform is owned by Nasdaq, Inc., which also owns the Nasdaq Nordic stock market network and several U.S. stock and options exchanges.

3️⃣ Japan Exchange Group (JPX)

Market capitalization : $ 5.68 Trilion

Japan Exchange Group, Inc.(JPX) is a Japanese financial services corporation that operates multiple securities exchanges including Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.

It was formed by the merger of the two companies on January 1, 2013.

It is the world’s third largest exchange, behind NYSE and NASDAQ and hence Asia’s largest bourse.

4️⃣ London Stock Exchange

Market capitalization : $ 4.59 Trillion

London Stock Exchange is a stock exchange in the City of London, England. As of April 2018, London Stock Exchange had a market capitalisation of US$4.59 trillion (GB£3,509,633,340,000).

It was founded in 1801, making it one of the oldest exchanges in the world. Its current premises are situated in Paternoster Square close to St Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London. It is part of London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).

London Stock Exchange Group was created in October 2007 when London Stock Exchange merged with Milan Stock Exchange, Borsa Italiana.

5️⃣ Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE)

Market capitalization : $ 4.03 Trillion

The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) is a stock exchange based in the city of Shanghai, China.

It is one of the two stock exchanges operating independently in mainland China, the other being the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange is the world’s 4th largest stock market by market capitalization at US$4.0 trillion as of November 2018.

Unlike the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Shanghai Stock Exchange is still not entirely open to foreign investors and often affected by the decisions of the central government, due to capital account controls exercised by the Chinese mainland authorities.

The current exchange was re-established on November 26, 1990, and was in operation on December 19 of the same year. It is a non-profit organization directly administered by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).

6️⃣ Hong Kong Stock Exchange

Region : Hong Kong

Market capitalization : $ 3.94 Trillion

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, also known as Hong Kong Stock Exchange is a stock exchange based in Hong Kong.

It is the world’s largest bourse in terms of market capitalization, surpassing Chicago-based CME. As of the end of 2020, it has 2,538 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of HK$47 trillion. It is reported as the fastest growing stock exchange in Asia.

The stock exchange is owned through its subsidiary Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), a holding company that it also lists (SEHK: 388). The physical trading floor at Exchange Square was closed in October 2017.

7️⃣ Euronext

Market capitalization : $ 3.93 Trillion

Euronext N.V., also known as European New Exchange Technology is the largest stock exchange in Europe, operating markets in Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Lisbon, London, Oslo and Paris. As of June 2020, it had nearly 1,500 listed issuers worth €3.8 trillion in market capitalisation.

Euronext operates regulated equity and derivatives markets and is the largest centre for debt and funds listings in the world. Its product range includes equities, exchange-traded funds, warrants and certificates, bonds, derivatives, commodities and indices as well as a foreign exchange trading platform. Euronext also provides technology and managed services to third parties.

In addition to its main regulated market, it operates Euronext Growth and Euronext Access, providing access to listing for small and medium-sized enterprises. Euronext provides custody and settlement services through central securities depositaries (CSD) in Denmark, Norway and Portugal.

Euronext’s registered office and corporate headquarters are situated in Amsterdam and Paris, respectively.

8️⃣ Toronto Stock Exchange

Market capitalization : $ 3.26 Trillion

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is a stock exchange in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the 8th largest exchange in the world by market capitalization.

Based in the EY Tower in Toronto’s Financial District, the TSX is a wholly owned subsidiary of the TMX Group for the trading of senior equities. A broad range of businesses from Canada and abroad are represented on the exchange.

In addition to conventional securities, the exchange lists various exchange-traded funds, split share corporations, income trusts and investment funds. More mining and oil and gas companies are listed on Toronto Stock Exchange than any other stock exchange.

9️⃣ Shenzhen Stock Exchange

Market capitalization : $ 2.50 Trillion

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) is a stock exchange based in the city of Shenzhen, in the People’s Republic of China.

It is one of two stock exchanges operating independently in Mainland China, the other being the larger Shanghai Stock Exchange. It is situated in the Futian district of Shenzhen.

With a market capitalization of its listed companies around US$2.504 trillion in 2019, it is the 9th largest stock exchange in the world, and 4th largest in East Asia and Asia.

🔟 Bombay Stock Exchange

Region : India

Market capitalization : $ 2.06 Trillion

BSE Limited, formerly known as the Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd., is an Indian stock exchange located at Dalal Street, Mumbai.

Established in 1875, it is Asia’s oldest stock exchange.

The BSE is the world’s 10th largest stock exchange with an overall market capitalization of more than US$2.2 trillion on as of April 2018.
